My name is Ola Adiyeh, I am originaly from Palestine, I teach math and science to ESL students at the Islamic Saudi Academy, my job is to translate the concepts from English to Arabic, I am so pleased to be here in order to learn new technologies to teach them.
I plan to use it during the first week of semester as a way of reviewing past materials, and for everyone to discuss their summer.
Past materials: talk about a past event, including what, when and where.
Hello everyone,
My name is Ghadeer, I am from Jordan,my goal from this class to learn how to integrate technology in my lesson plan, I am glade to be here.
Today I’ve learn about “padlet” never heard of it before, I am really happy to learn about it, it is a website where you can create a wall add photos, texts, video to this wall, edit and share it with others. You can write in this website in Arabic which is great, I can’t wait to learn more about it and use it with my students.
Hi Everyone,
Here’s the link to my Padlet. The theme of the activity that I have created is about favorite food items. Students will post their favorite food items/dishes and describe why they like it in the target language. http://padlet.com/wall/yj2tq1bn9d
This activity is gear to writing as one of the assessments after the lesson. For speaking assessment, students can create a video talking about another food associate with the one of the festivals we learned and upload it to padlet.com.

HI everyone, I am Naima Mustapha, I teach Arabic language in MD for about 11 years now.
I am glad to join the NOVA StartTalk program for this year 2013, after 4 years.
Looking forward to learn about technology and how to use it in my classroom.
Today I’ve learned about two new websites never heard of them before
1- Weebly and I LOVE IT
2- Padlet and I really really love
can not wait to use them in my class
This is an activity designed for students to talk about their culture in the target language through the incorporation of technology in their language classrooms.

This is the link to the project created on My Brainshark by Kanika, Ridhima and Madhu using all the pictures that were taken in the Freer and Sackler galleries during the field trip today.
Lifeng and I visited the Freer Sackler Museum today. We visited Chinese artifacts there. We together presented Chinese artifacts of different dynasties and century.
Our project is about a bowl made in Iran in 13th century with the design of horses and riders. This bowl was dedicated to the king as a sign of victory. We compare this beautiful art work with today’s trophy that is presented as a sign of victory.
We went on a field trip to the Museum, and we created this presentation using power point and uploaded it on
mybrainshark.com We invite you to visit the following link to view it.
Tried post it yesterday, didn’t work. Now include padlet & My brainkshark! I am learning a lot! The instructors are outstanding and the participants are awesome!
I use Animoto to create a 30 second video which covers 5 slides of Chinese New Year activities. This video will be used as a warm up activity for introducing Chinese New Year.
The IPA assessment is a great way to asset the students work and as an example I would ask the student to compare the way of celebration EID in his country and in the states.
It became so clear to me that the three modes of communication can lead to a great deal of negotiation and production in the TL. Students should be given the opportunities to negotiate meaning (interpersonal mode) through discussion that lead to output ( presentational mode). In order to achieve this goal, students should be exposed to comprehensible input (interpretive mode) and feedback that keep students on the right track.
IPl is an very effective tool of teaching a language and i use it for my Intermediate students all the time in the class room like give we hear a story on the Book Box and then every talks about and then they try to tell few facts about the story.
IPA is something new that I have learnt today. It was interesting to know how each task can have all the three communicative modes and how the students can be engaged to creatively perform a task. What is important is to constantly practice repetition with the students and then give them the language to use, experiment and learn.
It is very important to apply the IPA in classroom through the three modes of communication. It is the teachers’ compass to measure students’ level of mastering the learned knowledge and skills. Thanks all!
I think what Angela said about IPA being a way of framing my lessons gives me a very good perspective of what this is. Because a lot of times I focus on many activities but got lost in the individual activities. When I think in terms of IPA, I can consciously connect everything I do and make them a meaningful complete unit.
The only thing is my students are all novice level and I think I will have difficulty coming up with easy enough interpretive tasks for the first Phase of IPA.
The IPA is a great way to help me know how much my students understand from the lesson
Example: compare between the way of celebration of the New year ‘s eve in their country and the USA
Earth day : how to save the Earth
IPA is an important reminder when one plans/delivers lessons. As a public school teacher, ‘# record’ is essential 😉 my question is how do I document the assessment? Do I develop a checklist integrate each IPA component, 4 language mode & the tech tools being used?
Utilizing technology is a great tool that facilitate the learning process. As a teacher, I used to take time to design lesson plans utilizing technological tools because I have not been introduced for the good ones. Through this workshop, I have been introduced for a very productive and easy to navigate website that definitely I will utilize to achieve the three modes of communication.
I knew the IPA for a while, but I have learned more detailed and deeper understanding about the IPA from today’s presentation. Today’s IPA presentation is very brief and useful. It guides me to think about wider possibility to embed in my lessons and assessment.
The explanation and examples of how to integrate the 3 modes in different levels(novice->intermediate-> advanced level, really guides me to think with a wider and more solid aspect. Thank you, Dr. Franklin.
IPA is a powerful assessment tool. I didn’t realized that I have been using this IPA in my teaching to assess my students. After attending this lesson from Dr. Franklin, I have a feedback or reflection: I should have limited the time for students to do their work . I like Dr. Franklin comment that “limit the time you are going to adjust upon”.
For my new school year, I will definitely show my students new Technics, like padlet, animoto, toondoo, voicethreat etc.
Learning about IPA was useful, to know how three modes should be connected for a task given to the students. Planning the right kind of assessment takes a lot of time and I hope with this presentation I will now be able to think in a different manner and come up with good creative ideas for assessment. Thank you
Dr. Franklin, I really like the program. It is very informative and I learn a lot. It’s opening the door to me in order to explore the technology, and use it in my classroom. Thank you so much for all the hard work that you have done for us.
MS Franklin ,that was very nice to be in your class and learn these interesting technology which we can use to teach our students. I was not familiar with so many of them before, now I love to apply Toondoo or mybrainshark ,etc.in my classes.I am sure my teenagers will love these tools and this way I can encourage them to talk to each other and promote their ability to use target language. I learned a lot from Angela joon and from Dr.Essa too and I really appreciate them.
thank you again
Thank you very much Dr. Franklin, I am learning a new things every day, and I will use it in my classroom. Love your program, your dedicated instructors, and of course sweet Angela joon.
Love you all,
Gita
Dr. Franklin,
I find IPL a very effective tool to put the language into practice in my classroom. In fact without it my lesson won’t have much of the value as the language will be live as we speak and communicate. My students will interpret by predictions and other tools, they will discuss it with each other and share opinions and present their different forms of skills to each other and feel more comfortable with the language as they speak it.
Thanks,
Rozita Mostofi

I am a Chinese language teacher. Inside my Padlet account, I have created two assignments for my students.
The first one is to paste their picture, write down their name and describe their hobbies in Chinese using sentence likes 我喜欢 。。。。。。
The second assignment for my students is to post a historical Chinese painting and describe the timeline of it using the following Chinese sentence.
这副画是西元 ( 1111—1125 )年的画, (宋)朝时期的作品。
Word Banks : 周,隋,漢,唐,宋,元,明,请

IPL is an effective tool to teach at any level. For example for my intermediate class I select the story from Book Box and let them listen it.
1. they read and listen the story
2. In a group they talk about
3. Then they present about the few facts about hte stary.
The IPA is a great way to to find out how much information the students understand.
Example: Celebration of the EID
Example: The month of Ramadan
