What is Screenchomp
Screenchomp is a free app that allows you to create and share short tutorials on your iPad. You can demonstrate things on its whiteboard by drawing and talking through your instructions. Your instructions and talking will be recorded and uploaded to ScreenChomp.com where a shortened URL will be provided for you to share with your students.
How to use Screenchomp
To get the app and sign up a Nearpod account, you need to:

Go to App Store

Type in Screenchomp in the search area

Tab on INSTALL to install the Free app

Tab on OPEN once the installation has completed

Press on one of the markers to write or hold for 3 seconds for more colors.

Swipe two fingers up or down to scroll your whiteboard if you have finished writing on the current whiteboard space

Press on the Spot Eraser to Swipe over any mistakes to watch them disappear.

Press on the Erase All tool for 3 seconds to clean everything on your whiteboard.

Press on the Insert Background tool to insert an image as a background,; choose one of the given options

Press the “REC” button to record your talking and what is happening on the screen.

When you are finished recording, press the white square button in the lower right corner to stop recording

You will see your recording played back. In the upper part of the video you will see a date and time–press in the box and type your name and title.

Press the button in the lower right hand corner that says “Share” to upload the video. ( this will take you back to start another screen capture )

Press View Videos button to view your recent video uploads

Press the blue Share button for options to share the video

Suggestions for Language Class Use:
There are a lot of things you can do with Screenchomp to apply with ACFTL standards. For example, you can use it to create mini tutorials to explain a difficult grammar concept, to give personal feedback to students’ work; you can show students to write characters in the correct stroke orders in the target language; you can bring in images and talk about them in target language to see if your students understand them; you can assign homework for students to do using Screenchomp and ask them to share with you; you can ask students to create presentations using Screenchomp, etc, etc.
Example 1
Show students the way to write the Chinese character “我” in the correct stroke order and correct pronunciation.
Directions:

Open Screenchomp

Tap on the rec button

Wait for the countdown to disappear

Start writing the character in the correct stroke order and talking about “笔划“ at the same time

Tap on the stop button when you are done
-
Play the tutorial by clicking on the play button (Hold down the trash can for two seconds to remove it can if you don’t want to keep the tutorial)

Tap on the Share icon to upload the tutorial

Tap on the View Video folder to find the one you just updated

Tap on the Share button at the bottom to email it to your students

Directions;

Use iPad to take a family picture

Open Screenchomp

Load the picture into the whiteboard by choosing from library

Locate the image and display it as a background in the whiteboard

Tap on the rec button to start the recording

Use one of the makers to indicate your family members

Tap on the stop button when you are done

Play the tutorial by clicking on the play button (Hold down the trash to remove it can if you don’t want to keep the tutorial)
